Family Matters: A Believer’s Guide To Thriving Rather Than Surviving The Holiday Season | Past Event, Present Reality – November 5, 2017
Genesis 37:22-36; 45:4-5
The story of Joseph provides fascinating insight into the ability of human families to harm one another while revealing the redemptive possibilities when handled appropriately. Joseph, who had mistakenly agitated his siblings, experienced great pain as they felt driven to action. Fault can lay at the feet of both, yet God had a plan through it all. After they felt they had dealt with the situation, the brothers were reunited in what could have easily become a revenge fest. God’s redemptive work caused forgiveness to be the focus of that encounter. We really need to allow God’s redemptive work to be permeating through our families, particularly as believers, and do all we can to seek reconciliation. But, oh boy, that can be hard!
